I’m preparing for a motorcycle trip to Nepal and Tibet in September 2024, and I thought I knew everything I needed to know about power….but I was wrong. Apparently, Nepal uses type C (cool, no problem), but they also use type D and type M plugs (WTF are these?). They’re from old British standards when the world was first electrified, and most universal travel adapters (all us travel pros carry them) don’t have compatibility with these two plugs. Here’s an image of what types of plugs most universal travel adapters are and are not compatible with:
So, that sent me down the rat hole. I LOVE Anker products, because all of their chargers are GaaN Prime, and can charge a bunch of devices, really fast, while operating cooler. Well, now Ceptics has a 65W GaaN charger, compatible with their Swap and Adapt Technology (SWadAPt, I have no idea why it’s written in conspiracy theory text 🤣), which means there’s an interchangeable system to replace the tips for different countries. I watched this video, and I was sold. It’s got one grounded US plug (Type A), one grounded US plug (Type B), two USB-C plugs, and one USB-A. It’s also got a 5ft extension cord which is compatible with the SWadAPt system. You can basically use this to charge your laptop, if it’s small enough, and every other device you own, which means less things to carry.
So, after a couple of hours of research, here’s my new power adapter travel list:
- 65W World Travel Adapter 3 USB Ports PD 3.0 Ultra Compact Charger
- SWadAPt World Travel 7 Adapter Separate Attachment Set
I’m now moving to a new packing system where I have a minimal and maximal configuration:
- Minimal: Charger, plus Type A and Type C
- Maximal: Charger, plus Type A, Type C, and all of the other adapters
